Chapter 13

Now all sorts of thoughts were swirling through my head. My stomach was in absolute knots. The wind began to ominously roar even louder than before as a real chill began to fall and the sun began to set.

I couldn’t believe Kevin just ran off like that. He seemed fine with this plan for the longest time. Now I needed to decide if it was worth it for me to try to stay by myself. What happens if I get pinned back here all alone? What if Nick goes out front and I don’t even get to see him?

I made the decision to hold out a little longer from back here. I could see where Nick was through the windows.

Once I realized it was almost dark out, I realized I had better turn the night vision on with this camcorder, or I may not capture anything at all. I fumbled around with the settings on the camera for a couple minutes and finally found out how to turn it on.

When I glanced up at the house, all the lights were off. What the heck happened?

I couldn’t believe it. Did they go to bed already? Were they transforming into monsters? This was escalating into an uncomfortable situation very quickly. My heart began pounding in my chest.

I could feel my palms sweating, and I too now felt sick to my stomach. The migraine that I had yesterday was now beginning to take over as well. This was not good.

I decided to try to sneak back toward the front of the house. Luckily, the shrubs were far enough away from the fence that I could crouch walk and try to see if maybe I could get a better vantage point from the front of the house.

I stayed low and slowly made my way to the side of the property. There were no windows over here, so this wasn’t a good spot.

I wasn’t sure what was going on, but I was determined to find out. I saw a really large pine tree on the outside of their driveway that I could hide behind. I quickly scampered over to the tree and hid behind it.

This was perfect! I couldn’t see in the house, but if anyone was to come out, I would surely be able to capture them. My head was absolutely throbbing now, but I had to push through the pain if I wanted to capture them in monster form.

I peeked out from behind the tree and waited in silence. The breeze really picked up, and a shiver went up my spine.

“Keeeeyaaahh!”

Holy cow! I heard what sounded like one of the monster shrieks. It sounded like someone that had been holding their breath under water for too long and finally breathing before erupting into the high-pitched scream that I had heard before. It sounded like it was really close by.

That’s when I saw something. Off in the distance, a pair of white glowing eyes staring directly at me. It was all I could see in the dark.
